On January 24, 2025, the NSF Research Coordination Network hosted a virtual workshop focused on the intersection of data justice and wastewater surveillance. This event, supported by NSF Award 2202361, brought together leading experts to discuss key issues surrounding the increasing privatization of health data and the ethical responsibilities of implementing surveillance programs. Keynote speakers included Mohammed Rafi Arefin, Carolyn Prouse, Dhiraj Nainani, Pamela Robinson, and Teresa Scassa. Their insightful presentations and discussions provided critical perspectives on how wastewater surveillance can be leveraged for public health while ensuring ethical data governance. The workshop featured pre-readings, expert-led presentations, and interactive breakout discussions based on real-world case studies.
